About Us

Guardians of Oregon's Coast Since 2004

View the Future is a locally-based nonprofit organization dedicated to stewarding and conserving lands for scenic views, wildlife habitat, environmental health, cultural preservation, and recreation in the Yachats area.

Our Mission

Preserve. Protect. Enhance.

The mission of View the Future is to preserve, protect, and enhance the natural environment, promoting collaborative actions for scientific, educational, recreational, cultural, and economic goals for the benefit of the Yachats community and its future generations.

As a land trust in southern Lincoln County, VtF partners with Yachats area landowners to establish conservation easements. Currently, we manage five conservation easements and own one donated property, championing environmental sustainability and combating climate change through dedicated preservation efforts.

Our Story

How it began

In 2003, when Boise (formerly Boise-Cascade) announced plans to harvest forest acreage on the ridges south of the Yachats River, a group of concerned community members came together to discuss what could be done to protect these treasured lands.

View the Future was formed as a nonprofit corporation, and in July 2004, VtF received IRS tax-exempt status as a 501(c)(3) organization. Since then, we have worked tirelessly to protect the scenic beauty, wildlife habitat, and cultural heritage of the Yachats area.

Today, we continue our mission through conservation easements, community education, and partnerships with local organizations, tribal nations, and landowners who share our vision for a protected and thriving Oregon Coast.

Cultural Heritage

Honoring those who came before

Land protection and cultural preservation are deeply interconnected. View the Future is committed to honoring, sustaining, and preserving local history and tribal culture—traditions and heritage that define our community.

Consistent with our mission, we collaborate and cooperate with the two confederated tribes from the central Oregon Coast who are the descendants of the area's first people. We also partner with Oregon Black Pioneers to share the important but often overlooked history of Black pioneers in Oregon.
